Whether a person is allowed to drink while sailing has now become an often asked question by many people. However, in order not to break the law, you are supposed to wait for the alcohol level in your blood to decrease down to 0.08% before you decide to sail back home. The same limit applies to driving a car and affects only the person who’s in charge of the vehicle. It seems like drinking and sailing laws are not so complicated, after all!

In addition to this, we should note that this does not refer only to alcohol, but to drugs as well. On the other hand, passengers seem to be free of any restrictions as long as they do not go near the rudder. However, it is not advisable to drink while on a boat, as too much alcohol can lead to loss of control, which may result in falling off the vehicle. If those around are drunk as well, this scenario is hard to end well.

Also, unless the person who’s in charge of the vehicle is sober, he or she might not be able to take the boat back to the port, and God knows what can happen, especially if this journey takes place during the colder seasons. The risk of wandering in unknown direction is also present, and this can very easily lead to a crash between your and another naval vehicle. This may endanger several lives – to the ones who drink on board and those on the other vehicle. Therefore, it is important not to violate the drinking and sailing laws, as they do serve a good purpose.

Why Did I decorate My Kitchen Like a Ship Galley?

Well, simply because I love ship interiors. I also like making a home out of my house, and seeing interior designing as an art, I decided to bring the sea inside my kitchen. Now that I’ve actually done it, I can say that I don’t regret spending a single penny on it. Every time I enter my kitchen, another cruise memory crosses my mind.

The Concept of the Ship Galley Kitchen

The reason why I decorated my kitchen like a ship galley is because of its utilitarian concept. Basically, it consists of a hallway separating two walls, with all the elements placed along these 2 parallel walls. Even though these kitchens can be wider, the concept tends to be in this particular manner as if to feel the limited space offered on a ship in the middle of the sea. The elements included are usually the sink, refrigerator, and the stove, which are placed in a “triangle” position – two of them are placed on one wall, while the third one is on the opposite wall somewhere in the middle, thus the three elements form a triangle.

Colors

The colors are no surprise at all. Despite the navy blue, which is kind of a must, other suggested colors are yellow, white and light gray, as they make the small kitchen look much bigger.

Accessories

There are several accessories which are almost always included in the ship galley kitchen. One of them is a bowl full of fruits, mostly southern exotic pieces. Additionally, there is usually a wooden vase, which depicts the picture of a certain place or period. People also like to keep a shelf of old wine brands, as wine is normally connected with cruising experience. In addition to this, those who are willing to get their hands a bit busy can create a chandelier out of an old wine barrel, as it fits this setting perfectly. It’s not only an accessory item, but it is handy for hanging things on it as well.
